Description
The data used in this report are drawn from the computer records of 63 farms in England, UK, using the Dairy Information System (DAISY). Health records from these farms were used to measure fertility and disease simultaneously, and to assess their financial impact on the herd. Subject areas examined included: data collection; herd selection; levels of health problems (twinning, calf mortality, aid at calving, retained foetal membranes, milk fever, oestrus not observed, vulval discharge, mastitis and lameness); fertility (proportion of served cows which calved, mean interval from calving to first service, pregnancy rate, mean interval from calving to conception and calving interval); estimates of health costs; and recording dairy cow data
